National talent identification

AUSTRALIA’S best 130 junior volleyball players are training in Bendigo this week for the Australian Institute of Sport’s junior development camp … with the aim of earning a place in the Australian junior squad …

National Talent Identification and Development Coach and Junior Women’s Program Manager, Simon Naismith, said the athletes at this week’s camp had been selected based on their performances throughout the year. “We’ve got talent identification scouts out throughout Australia through Volleyball Australia whose prime job is to go out to state schools and competitions and under-16 championships to find athletes to bring to this camp,’’ he said. … “They will have fantastic ball control, which is really important, as well as playing an international style of game,’’ he said. “… we need true athletes out there.’’ more@BendigoAdvertiser

Did I miss the announcement at Volleyball Australia? I’ve been told that Staff at SASI were told two weeks ago that Steve Tutton was leaving his SASI Program Manager role immediately and taking up his “new” role as Head Coach of the AIS Beach Program. who’s who @ volleyball Australia

New appointments at Volleyball Australia

After 2 very successful years, Jenny Becker has resigned from her role as Women’s National Program Manager with the AVF. The AVF is pleased to announce the appointment of Simon Naismith as Jenny Becker’s replacement with 12 months left to run on the Volleyball’s NTID funding. … as an outcome of last year’s internal review of the AVF’s Women’s National Program, this important position will now be known as the Women’s NTID/National Junior Program (NJP) Manager to more clearly identify the youth/junior focus of the role. more@Volleyball Australia

Volleyball Australia is pleased to announce that Cassie Behrens has been appointed to the position of Events Coordinator.   This position has been made possible due to the financial support of the SWMGOC and will focus solely on the organisation of the World Masters Games until its completion at which time Cassie will then assist Competition and Events Manager Susan Diver-Tuck with the Volleyball Australia events portfolio through June 2010. more@Volleyball Australia
