Norway Open underway

Posted by devo on August 12, 2009

fivb world tour 09Both Aussie women’s teams ~ Palmer-Bawden & Rohkamper-Jensen ~ are through qualification and into the main draw at the Otera Open – Kristiansand in Norway. The men’s qualification ~ Boehm-McHugh & Campbell-Carey ~ begins today.

Louise Bawden and Becchara Palmer, who placed second in the last week’s SWATCH FIVB World Tour event in Stare Jablonki, Poland, protected their top seed in the 18-team qualifier Tuesday with a 21-23, 21-9 and 15-9 win over 16th-seeded Nora Tawhid and Rivia Oliveira of Sweden to advance as the second of two teams from Australia to Wednesday’s opening “money” rounds.

Eighth-seeded Heike Jensen and Alice Rohkamper were the first Australians to advance with a 21-18, 17-21 and 15-11 win in 50 minutes over ninth-seeded Morgane Faure and Mathilde Giordano of France.  The Aussie partnerships were altered four SWATCH stops ago as the 2009 season started with Jensen playing with Palmer and Rohkamper with Bawden.

Since the change for the SWATCH FIVB World Tour Grand Slam stop in Marseille, France, Bawden and Palmer have now been successful in each qualifying try with a 5-0 match mark.  Jensen and Rohkamper failed in their first two efforts in the preliminary rounds before hitting success last week in Poland and Tuesday on the Tresse to improve their qualifying record to 4-2 together. more@fivb

It is also remarkable that Louise was able to win a medal in her first season of playing on the international tour. I think our experience was the difference today.” more@fivb ~ more pictures@fivb
