Rourke Concludes Career with All-America Status

Posted by devo on December 18, 2009

Senior Rachel Rourke (Queensland, Australia) added another first for the Oregon State volleyball program earning All-America status, announced Wednesday by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Rourke was named to the second team after earning the program’s first AVCA All-Pacific Region nod, announced last week. She joins 13 other student-athletes on the second team, including seven other Pac-10 opponents. more

Aussie coach at Oregan State, Mark Barnard says, “It is hard to describe just how big this award is, to be named an All American is a massive achievement. There are somewhere around 4000 women playing at the Division 1 level and Rachel has been chosen in the top 28 of all players.”

“She is the only player ever from Oregon State to be named an All American; we are talking about 38 years of Oregon State having a program!”

Agreed. This is a very big deal in NCAA volleyball. I attended the All American Dinner and this was recognised in front 1500+ volleyball coaches and officials. It was also recognised during the break in the NCAA final between U of Texas and Penn State.
