World Beach Champs – elimination rounds

Posted by devo on September 19, 2009

Beach FIVB_WCHSAussies Chris MCHUGH & Luke SMITH have survived the pool round of the main draw at the FIVB Beach Junior World Championships with 2 of 3 games won.

They now move on to  Round 1 of the main draw. One loss and they are out of the tournament. Two wins and they are into the semi-finals.

Their opponents tonight, Marshall-Schachter from Canada, cruised through their pool with 3 of 3 games easily won. If the guys win this match they will play again at 11pm AEST against the winner from the Wojtasik-Leznicki POL [21] (2-1) vs Stiel-Dollinger GER [24] (1-2 “Lucky losers”) match.

It’s a tough draw first up, but the second game looks juicy. We are all supporting you guys.

  • Marshall-Schachter CAN [7] lost to Smith-McHugh AUS [17] 1-2 (20-22, 21-16, 12-15)
  • SMITH-McHugh AUS [17] lost to Stiel-Dollinger GER [24] 0-2 (17-21, 22-24).

That ends the guys’ tournament at the quarter-final stage in what was an agonisingly close second set. They finish with an equal 5th at a World Championship.

McHugh and Smith won in 3 sets -wasn’t the prettest of wins but a win nun the less.
