After winning a pair of qualifying matches here Tuesday, Australians Becchara Palmer and Louise Bawden entered Wednesday’s Main Draw as the 26th-seeded team with the hopes of a split to continue playing Thursday in the US$380,000 Mazury Open.

After upsetting seventh-seeded Nila Ann Hakedal and Ingrid Torlen Norway 19-21, 21-17 and 15-11 in their first match Wednesday, Palmer and Bawden finished a “perfect” day on the Hotel Anders courts with a 21-12 and 21-12 win in 27 minutes over 23rd-seeded Elsa Baquerizo and Liliana Fernandez Steiner of Spain.

While Palmer posted a seventh earlier this season with Heike Jensen in Shanghai for her second-best SWATCH FIVB World Tour finish after a fourth at the end of last year with Olympian Tamsin Barnett in Thailand, Bawden is now guaranteed her top international Beach Volleyball event ranking.  Her previous best was last week as she and Palmer finished 17th in the Austrian Grand Slam in Klagenfurt. more@fivb
