champions league

Posted by markleb on March 6, 2009

I was planning on writing earlier in the week that all matches in the European Champions League from the quarter finals onwards are being shown live on  I can’t find any information on the site that says it should be restricted in some way, so I presume it will work everywhere.

Although I forgot to post about it, I didn’t forget to watch the games.  At one stage I had two windows open watching Friedrichshafen (GER) -Iraklis (GRE) and Macerata (ITA) – Kazan (RUS).  The news is that Friedrichshafen and Kazan, the last two winners of the trophy both lost their first leg matches 3-0 and will have their work cut out for them to win the return matches 3-0 and force a golden set.  Macerata were particularly impressive and they thrashed Kazan for whom Olympic champions Lloy Ball and Clay Stanley were playing (and getting stroppy).  But at least Kazan will play the return leg at home which I know from personal experience is a really tough away trip.  It would be enough to make an AFL player’s head explode just hearing the story about it.

In other matches Italy champions Trento won in Poland against Czestochowa and should be able to win the two sets at home without any problems to advance to the Final Four.  The most interesting match was the one between Belchatow (Poland) and Odintsovo (Giba’s team from Russia).  Because Poles are quite patriotic and big volleyball fans, Belchatow played their home games in the nearest big city of Lodz knowing that they would get 10,000 screaming maniacs to come even if they weren’t all strictly speaking Belchatow fans.  The match was a fantastic spectacle, as you would expect, and a battle of the opposites.  Mariusz Wlazly’s 32 points just beat out Jochen Schoeps 29 points and Belchatow just won 17-15 in the 5th.  But this tie is very evenly balanced with Odintsovo holding the edge for the return leg.  That is one match I would get up early to watch.

I have been watching games for the last two weeks and the site is very impressive. Extremely high quality feed which you certainly can turn to full screen. Though if it is a big game there can be a wait to get on.

Also sometimes they will ask you to log in. Its free to become a member and usually will remember your password.
