Vic trials and the fires

VictoriaA message from Volleyball Victoria

Volleyball Victoria, through our State Team Program Manager and Committee, have canvassed the thoughts of all of our State Team Coaches on whether to proceed with the State Team Trials this Sunday, February 15, 2009, in Bendigo.

Based upon the feedback which we received from all of our State Team Coaches, and in particular those from the Bendigo district, who have localised knowledge and know the fire risk situation in that area, we have decided after much consideration to proceed. This was the wish of the majority of Coaches. We totally respect the opinions of all of our Coaches. There is no right or wrong response or answer to the question of whether to proceed.

We would like to stress that we do not want any players or their families to feel any pressure to attend the trials in Bendigo if they have any concerns for their safety or have been effected directly or indirectly by the bushfires.

We would in particular suggest to any athletes from Gippsland that given the ongoing fire risk from the Bunyip State Forests that they attend only the second week of trials. We will be communicating that advice to the Gippsland Academy Coaches.

Under 15 State Team training at the State Volleyball Centre will also proceed on the same day and again we recommend that anyone has been effected by the bushfires or who has to travel through high risk areas are encouraged not to attend this week.

As a mark of respect, we would like everyone at U15 training & U17/19/21 trials on Sunday, to observe a minute’s silence prior to their sessions.
