Carroll begins season

The Pepperdine men’s volleyball team, the national runner-up last season, has earned the #3 ranking in the preseason Bison/AVCA national top 15 poll, the organization announced today. Pepperdine was previously named the co-favorite in the 2009 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation preseason coaches’ poll … The Waves do return two-time All-American and senior opposite Paul Carroll (Forster, Australia), who led the nation with 6.54 kills last season and was named the top player in Australia earlier this season. more @ Pepperdine

In pre season play the Waves are playing the Huskies.

The host University of Saskatchewan Huskies did some court surfing Monday night, only to get washed up by a big tidal wave.

After rolling off to a 25-21 win in the opening game, the Huskies couldn’t ride the momentum as they dropped the next set 25-20 and the third 25-18. Managing to roll with the Pepperdine punches, the Dogs mounted a counter-attack in the fourth set, which they took 25-18. However, the Pepperdine Waves from Malibu, Calif., prevailed 15-12 in the deciding fi fth set in opening-day action at the Brian Mallard Invitational men’s volleyball tournament at the PAC. more @
