Australian Youth Olympic Festival 2009

The 2009 AYOF will take place from January 13 – 18. There will be 21 sports. The Australian Youth Olympic Festival (AYOF) was initiated by the Australian Olympic Committee following the success of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

The inaugural Festival was held in January 2001 and has subsequently been held biennially. The AYOF is fully funded by the Australian Olympic Committee and is held under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee. The AYOF’s mission is to discover future Olympic Champions, provide them with an environment reminiscent of an Olympic Games and promote the Olympic ideals of fair play, honesty and pride. The age range for the Festival is for athletes between 13-19 years of age.

The nations invited are: Australia, Argentina, Brazil Canada, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Oceania, Singapore, South Africa, Sweden, Chinese, Taipei and USA.

Males: Robert Reeves, Yamanto QLD 4305; Patrick Mead, Stafford QLD 4053; Hamish Moore, Loxton SA 5333; Corey Leathart, Capalaba QLD 4157.

Females: Zina Stone, Seaford Meadows SA 5169; Mariafe Artacho, Elanora Heights NSW 2101; Karley (Eliza) Hynes, Maiden Gully SA 3551; Taliqua Clancy, Moorooka QLD 4105.
